About The Keys to Space
"If you have the keys to space, and the ability to build whatever you need to build, it’s very difficult to compete with that."
— Sir Peter Beck (Via Satellite)
Why This Time Is Different
Commercial space activity has seen multiple promising starts—and just as many failures—over the decades. But we are currently witnessing a fundamental shift. We are finally seeing the impact of a critical convergence: the miniaturization of electronics, radical advances in materials and manufacturing, and the necessary governmental support to make business in low Earth orbit feasible for companies of all sizes.
This isn't just a commercial evolution; it is a transformation extending into the military, intelligence, and geopolitical realms. As space plays a rapidly increasing role in global affairs, the ability to access and utilize it—to hold the "keys"—has never been more vital.
The Intersection
This site explores the specific intersection of defense, intelligence, artificial intelligence (AI), and New Space. As these fields evolve and converge, they create a feedback loop that will define the future of space exploration, national security, and technological advancement. "The Keys to Space" is dedicated to tracking how these elements fit together.
About the Author
I am the third generation of my family to work in human spaceflight, with roots deeply embedded in the Johnson Space Center community. My early career focused on engineering and software within the Space Shuttle Program. Having left the professional aerospace sector long ago, I now track the industry as a retired investor, focusing on the economics and growth of the New Space ecosystem.
The Mission
I created this site primarily to collect useful resources and track interesting developments in the industry. While this site serves as a personal knowledge base for my own tracking and analysis, I hope you find value in these resources if you have stumbled upon them.
